My Personal Travel Experience

My husband and I were very luck to do a self drive holiday around Iceland (in summer). We found this to be an amazing place and the ever changing landscape. With active volcano’s, black beaches, Glacier lagoon and diamond beach and a whole lot more.

We visited the Lava Center, Volcano exhibition center, which explains how and what the Volcano’s do and how they are shaping the world today. This is a must see.

The town of Vik with its back beaches and interesting rock formations. Vik is also a town that has been on may movies and TV sets, because of its interesting landscapes.

At Glacier Lagoon with did a Zodiac tour and saw amazing icebergs just floating in the lagoon.

We drove over a mountain to see many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots, surrounded by sulphur crystals of many different colours. This sulphur gives the area an overwhelming smell of egg. Then went swimming in The Mývatn Nature Baths (way better than Blue Lagoon) which are a set of geothermally heated pools and steam baths found in the Lake Mývatn area.

We traveled north to Husavik and a big town of Akureyri, where I had to buy a big all weather coat. As we underestimated the wind factor in the weather.

we also visited Þingvellir National Park which is notable for its unusual tectonic and volcanic environment in a rift valley. The continental drift between the North American and Eurasian Plates can be clearly seen in the cracks or faults which traverse the region, the largest one, Almannagjá, being a veritable canyon.

Gullfoss falls which is in a photo I took and we also walked through the Geysir’s. With steam vents everywhere.

Accommodation was also very good and had a few night at different  Fosshotels which are 5 star and located just out of several towns around Iceland.

This is an amazing must see place any time of year. We would like to go back sometime.
