My Personal Travel Experience

I first started travelling when I was a child, often visiting family in India and Canada. Growing up in the UK meant Europe was at my doorstep, which gave me plenty of opportunities to explore some of it. As I got older, my family and I also travelled further afield to places ranging from California, to New York, to Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

My first experience of luxury travel came in 1999 when I flew from London to Hong Kong in Business Class. This was in the era before flat beds were introduced, but the distinct in-flight experience made an impression on me which laid the foundations towards where I am today. From the fine table linen, to the three course presentation, to the physical comfort of the seat, and of course the airline lounges – all of which were new to me. Fast forward a few years later, and I had the privilege of an upgrade to First Class which is another experience I’ll never forget.

Fast forward 11 years later, and I travel with my wife on our honeymoon to Borneo. We stayed at a club room in the Shangri La resort. We were presented with a honeymoon welcome gift consisting of a bowl of fruit, a bottle of Taittinger champagne and some flowers. In addition, our room granted us daily access to the executive lounge which featured a complimentary daily breakfast, evening cocktails and canapes whilst overlooking the sunset, and all day soft drinks. That for me, defined ultimate luxury.
